Colgate is committed to providing accurate crime and fire-related statistics as well as continuously evaluating and improving the University's safety and security programs. This commitment is best illustrated by the extensive annual training campus safety officers receive and our Clery compliance review team. Led by Colgate's Campus Safety Compliance Manager, the Clery compliance review team meets on a weekly basis to review crime reports and make recommendations on crime prevention program improvements.

The Clery Act Explained

The Jeanne Clery Act is a consumer protection law that aims to provide transparency around campus crime policy and statistics. The Clery Act requires all institutions of higher learning that receive federal funding to publish a report which includes: the institution's crime statistics, crime reporting policies, prevention and awareness programs, services for victims, policies and procedures related to timely warnings and emergency notifications, as well as other information related to the safety and security of the institution's community. This information is published annually, by October 1st, for the preceding three calendar years in our Annual Security and Fire Safety Report.

If there is an immediate threat to self or others, physical injury or a safety concern, do not use these forms, call Campus Safety immediately at 315-228-7911.

Anonymously report information, concerns, or actions such as drug/alcohol violations, theft, crimes, weapons violations, or other law/policy violations.

Report to Campus Safety

You may submit this report anonymously, however, the nature of anonymous reports makes responsive action more difficult and, at times, impossible.

Campus Security Authorities are university officials who have significant responsibility for student and campus activities, including, but not limited to: student housing, student discipline, and campus judicial proceedings.

Report as a Campus Security Authority

Daily Crime and Fire Log

The Campus Safety Department maintains a daily crime and fire log listing all crimes and fires reported to campus officials that occur on campus, in or on non-campus buildings or property, or on public property immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus, or within the patrol jurisdiction of Campus Safety staff. The daily crime and fire log is available to the public during normal business hours at the Campus Safety Department building, 88 Hamilton Street.

Student Travel

In accordance with the Clery Act, Colgate is required to request crime statistics from law enforcement agencies having jurisdiction for those qualifying University sponsored travel locations under its control during the time the locations are used by students, faculty, and staff. As a result, all students traveling off campus must fill out the form below.
